By Jasleen Kaur

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has spent Rs 11,92,910 on subsription of 45 magazines and 43 daily newspapers for 2009-10. Afroz Alam Sahil, an RTI journalist, received this information in response to a Right to Information query.

PMO’s total expenditure on magazines and newspapers comes to an average of more than Rs 99,000 per month. It is, though, little less than the previous year’s (2008-09) expenditure which was Rs 12,09,505.

Out of the 45 magazines subsribed by the PMO, most are in Hindi and English languages along with one magazine in Bengali. Whereas the daily newspapers are mostly in English, Hindi and Urdu, there is also one newspaper each in Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi.
